The HeritEdge Connection Inc. has partnered with Bougainvillea and the Department of Cultural Heritage of St. Kitts and Nevis for developing a digital collection about St. Kitts’ Masquerade Traditions that will soon be offered open access online through the Digital Library of the Caribbean.
The masquerade traditions of St. Kitts and Nevis form part of the nation’s intangible cultural heritage since the 1890s. Recently, the Department of Culture in St. Kitts and Nevis recently completed a submission to UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register.
This project will complement this important work in three ways: a) an art exhibition that took place on June 22-27, 2026 and demonstrated the different ways in which artists have and continue to interpret these traditions over time; b) a crowdsourcing event during the exhibition opening that aimed to encourage the public to share stories, photographs, and memorabilia; and c) a digital collection that will eventually be offered open access online.

We invite the public to get in touch with us if interested to contribute stories, photos, or other material.
