HeritEdge awarded an OER Grant from the Digital Library of the Caribbean
HeritEdge has been awarded an Open Educational Resources Grant from the Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC) for the project “Slave Voyages – Slave Trade to Barbados.” Through this grant, HE will develop a) a set of primary sources based on colonial newspapers from Barbados and b) an accompanying teaching guide to provide teaching resources for the slave trade into the Caribbean. These resources will focus on the role of Barbados as a primary port of arrival of countless slave ships and the logistics underpinning the sale of captured Africans into the Caribbean. Eventually, the primary sources and the teaching guide will be made available open access through dLOC and will benefit teachers and instructors in the Caribbean and abroad.
The dLOC Open Educational Resources in Caribbean Studies Stipend Program, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, is designed to incentivize the development and use of open educational resources. You can see other projects funded through the program on the Teaching the Caribbean platform, as well as the Teachers Resource Collection in dLOC.
